Can Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet replace our Laptop?

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Tablet

The First Microsoft Surface Pro became available in 2013 which was bulky with Limited Battery, annoying Keyboard and was expensive, But it was also revolutionary.

After just two and a half years, Microsoft launched Surface pro 4, Best ever tablet that can replace a laptop, The idea is that you pack all the hardware goodness of a full x86 computer into a tablet form factor that can run windows and full windows applications, then design keyboard cover or optional keyboard that you can use and work on your lap, not as easy as it sounds. Microsoft Surface Pro 4 made only slight revisions over its predecessor Surface Pro 3. But we're not complaining.

Surface Pro 4 Tablet

Design

The most iterative part in this model is its looks. The same all-magnesium, the same adjustable kickstand and only slightly svelte 292 x 201 x 8.4mm dimensions.

It is still bulky for a tablet. Some will view the lack of immediately noticeable changes, but for us, it’s no bad thing because Surface Pro 3 remains one of the best looking convertibles on the market.

This new model jumps from a 12 inch to a 12.3 inch display which is accomplished through thinner bezels that makes it more attractive.

The device also benefits from thoughtful location of buttons. The power and volumes keys are located at the tablet’s top, long edge & the strength of the locking magnet is also increased. Using the Surface Pro 4 as my main laptop and tablet, the Surface Pen never once detached itself from the device which was not the case in its predecessor.

Connectivity is a bit more awkward. The USB, Mini Display Port Jacks are on the right side which works well enough when It is used with keyboard but when using in portrait orientation, Anything attached will jut out from the bottom. The combo headphone/microphone Jack is located near the top edge which will leave user to tangle with the cord in either case.

The power brick itself offers a USB Port, so that you can charge your phone without using USB Port on the Surface pro itself.

Variants

It comes with Intel Core M3 6th-Gen (Skylake) Dual-Core or Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 6th-Gen with RAM upto 16GB and Storage Upto 512GB. Buy Microsoft Surface Pro 4 all variants at Lowest price in Kuwait with us.

Microsoft Cover Type - Bright Blue

The Type Cover is also compatible with the old Surface Pro 3,It entirely solves the problem. It better uses the available space, so it’s larger and offers plenty of room between keys (a 19mm pitch) and a 1.3mm travel for a better typing experience. The touchpad is bigger, particularly in height.

It’s an essential thing in the Surface Pro 4. It still costs extra so you'll need to add it to the overall cost but you can buy at best price in Kuwait with us, if you want the full laptop like experience.

It’s really hard to express how much better it is, It can be noticed immediately because in old model, It’s even difficult to type our own name.

The Pen has been improved. It is four times more sensitive than Its previous model. It also includes an eraser which works like you’d expect it to. The digital stylus comes in 5 colors and attaches magnetically. The new Pen has 1024 levels of pressure. You can also use it with its predecessor model. New nibs can also be bought. The Eraser works like an actual rubber which is a big Upgrade. Pen input works far more smoothly than it did with Original Surface. It’s handy & often preferable to the virtual keyboard.

The Pen is powered by battery, which Microsoft claims has an 'all-year' battery life.

DISPLAY

The Surface Pro 3’s screen has nothing wrong but also Microsoft decided to improve it. Surface Pro 4 comes with a 12.3 inch Pixel Sense display with Screen resolution of 2736x1824 which is 267 per inch ensures text, Images or icons consistently look sharp. To the naked eye, colours and brightness levels are also brilliant. Blacks are deep and whites look clean, Most figures are among the best we’ve recorded from any laptop, tablet or 2-in-1.

FINAL VERDICT

Microsoft claims that the device is 50 percent faster than a MacBook Air and 30 percent faster than the Surface Pro 3. We can’t say about 30 percent improvement but its certainly better than its older model.

The Surface Pro 4 is so light in its weight, as it weighs about 1.7 pounds without accessories, and if we include Type Cover & Pen, it weighs about 2.3 pounds. Its light weight, combined with its slim profile, makes it easy to chuck in a bag for a trip. The power adapter is also small.

A large 38 watt hour battery is a respectable capacity but the high resolution display drains power So It has the same 9 hour maximum battery as the Pro 3. We found that the device cannot handle a work day on a single charge. Instead it drains often within half a day.

According to Microsoft’s claim, Yes, It’s the tablet that can replace your laptop but the story doesn’t end here. The design is thinner & lighter. The screen is brilliant, the Surface Pen is better and the Type Cover is a vast improvement from its old one. But it isn’t the best choice for everyone. The Keyboard can not be used while having it on lap or with different postures as it can be with Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Tablet. It’s also very expensive plus the cost of addition of Type Cover is also a barrier.
